Duane Hill
Duane was an outstanding three-sport athlete, graduating from Andrews in 1991. He played four years of football, starting at tailback for two years and making All-Conference both years. He played four years of basketball, starting his junior year and being the 6th man his senior year when he made All-Conference. In Track, Duane was a nine-time individual 3A State Champion – three years each in the 4X100m relay, 4X200m relay and 4X400m relay. The 1991 times in the 4X200m and 4X400m relays remain 3A State records to this day. During Duane’s four-year track career at Andrews, the Red Raiders never lost a track meet - undefeated in dual meets, conference and regional championships and claimed four-straight 3A state championships! Duane went on to Blinn Junior College in Texas where the team was National Junior College Indoor and Outdoor Champions both years and Duane was a collegiate All-American in the 400 meters and 4X400m relay. After Junior College, Duane went to Lincoln University in Missouri, graduating in 1999. He holds the school record in the 400 meters at 44.3 and was again a collegiate All-American.
Darlene Mason
Darlene graduated from Andrews in 1984 and later from North Carolina A&T with a degree in Business Marketing. She has served as a Special Populations Coordinator assistant, splitting time between Andrews and Central, and currently is employed by Guilford County Schools as a GEAR UP Family and Community Coordinator at the two schools. She has served on the Prom Committee and volunteered her time as JV Cheerleading Coach. Darlene has 25 years of experience working with the Andrews Athletic Department and Athletic Directors, serving in the capacity as ticket manager. She has been responsible for the management and oversight of the entire ticket operation – monitoring ticket sellers and takers – ensuring that all protocols and cash handling procedures are followed. As a result of this responsibility, she has been one of the first to arrive and last to leave at football and basketball games over the years. Darlene has been a member of the Hall of Fame Committee since its inception in 2014, serving as Secretary. She is responsible for the banquet program booklet and the slide show presentation as candidates are introduced. Darlene has worked tirelessly for the betterment of TWA.
Abby McMullan
Abby enthusiastically played three sports – softball, basketball and tennis – during her three years at Andrews, graduating in 1984. Recruited at an early age by Andrews’ Coach Barbara Kinney to play softball, Abby developed into an outstanding athlete. She was All-Conference and Team MVP in softball. In basketball she was All-Conference and team MVP, and during her senior year led her team to the state regional playoffs - making the All-Tournament team. Abby started playing tennis in the 10th grade and improved every year. By her senior year, she was undefeated in singles and her doubles team only lost one match. Her doubles team advanced to the state regional tournament. Abby received a scholarship to play tennis for Brevard College. She currently works as the Lead Assistant for Davis and Goldberg Orthodontics.
Mario Melton
Mario was a three-sport athlete, graduating from Andrews in 2004. He ran track all four years, qualifying for the state 2A meet in his sophomore and junior years in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and the 4X200m relay. The relay team won the state 2A championship in 2002. Mario was a three-year starter in basketball, averaging 16 points and nine rebounds, and making the All-Conference team all three years. As a senior, he was the Conference Player of the Year and made the All-Guilford County team. He was a three-year starter in football for the Red Raiders whose teams went 34-8 during that span, making the playoffs each year and advancing to the state semi-finals in 2002. In his high school career, he passed for almost 2,000 yards and 21 touchdowns. He rushed for another 1,000 yards and 17 touchdowns. He earned All-Conference and team MVP honors his last two years as well as being named the Conference Player of the Year. Mario took his football talents to Morgan State where he accounted for almost 2700 yards and 16 touchdowns during his career with the Bears. He graduated with a degree in Sociology, earned a Masters Degree, and is now a Probation Officer for the State of Maryland.
Jerry Rorie
This 1993 graduate was an outstanding two-sport athlete. Jerry started at center and linebacker in football during his three years of varsity. The Red Raiders were conference champions all three of these years. The 1991 team finished 13-2, winning the state 3A championship. The 1992 team went undefeated during the regular season, finished 13-1 and advanced to the state semifinals. Jerry was All-Conference and All-Guilford County his senior year. He had an outstanding four-year wrestling career at Andrews. The Andrews’ wrestlers were state 3A dual team champions for three of Jerry’s four years and atate 3A tournament champions for two years. During his four years of varsity wrestling, Jerry placed 3rd in the state in the 189 lb. weight class as a sophomore and junior and was state 3A runner-up as a senior. He finished his wrestling career with an outstanding 121-12 record for four years. Jerry attended North Carolina A&T State University and later earned his Bachelor of Arts in Human Relations from High Point University in 2011. He has been employed by Thomas Built Buses for 26 years.
Hope Rush
Hope played basketball and ran track at Andrews, graduating in 1987. In basketball, she played shooting guard and small forward, making the All-Conference and All-County teams as a senior. Her senior year, the basketball team finished 21-5 and advanced to the state 3A regional championship. Hope ran track only one year at Andrews but was very successful in the high jump and 4X100m relay. The 4X100m relay team won the state 3A championship her senior year. Hope earned a basketball scholarship to North Carolina A&T, graduating with a BS Degree in Business Administration in 1992. Her basketball teams were 94-48 during her years at A&T and won three Mid-East Athletic Conference regular season championships. Hope has served A&T as a member of the Board of Trustees and is the current Chair of the Aggie Athletic Association. She is especially proud of her son, Dr. Steven Rush, who is a member of the Aggie Athletic Hall of Fame. Hope is a certified Human Resource professional who has worked for Volvo and is currently HR and Logistics Manager for Do You Believe Enterprises based in Los Angeles.
Tenisha Pinnix Stewart
Tenisha was an outstanding athlete in basketball and track, graduating from Andrews in 1993. During her freshman year in track, Tenisha won the 1990 3A long jump state championship with a jump of 18’10”, a state meet record at the time. She also anchored the 4X200m relay team in the same meet that won the state championship. Tenisha started in varsity basketball all four years, leading the Lady Raiders to three conference championships and two regional championship appearances. Averaging 14 points and eight rebounds per game for her career, she was named to consecutive All-Conference teams and won consecutive MVP awards. Tenisha earned a scholarship to Louisburg Junior College, averaged 15 points, nine rebounds and five blocks per game as a sophomore and was named All-Conference. She went on to play at Western Kentucky University where the team was Sunbelt Conference Tournament Champions. She graduated from Western Kentucky in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Tenisha currently is employed by North Carolina A&T State University working in University Advancement.
Carl Torrence
Carl wrestled three years at Andrews, graduating in 1981. During his junior year, the Red Raiders were conference champions and finished 5th in the state tournament. At that time, all teams in the state competed in just one classification. Carl went 19-4 and won the sectional wrestling tournament in his weight class. In 1981, Carl’s senior year, the team was not only conference champions but finished as state tournament champions. Carl finished with an outstanding 26-2 record in the 132 lb. weight class. He attended North Carolina A&T and served in the National Guard for eight years.
1990 3A State Champion Men's Soccer Team
With nine seniors and five All-Conference selections returning from the 16-4-1 state 3A semifinalist team of 1989, you could feel the anticipation that something special could be in store for the 1990 Men’s Soccer Team. Led by Coach Sandy Dalton, the Red Raiders won the conference championship, advancing as one of the top seeds into the state playoffs. The Raiders finished the regular season 15-3 and then won five straight playoff games- allowing only three goals in that span- to win Andrews only state men’s soccer championship. The championship game at A.J. Simeon Stadium was made even sweeter as the Red Raiders defeated South Iredell 2-0 in the state finals – the team that had defeated them the previous year in the state semifinals. Brian Perryman was selected Most Valuable Player in the state championship game. Alan Cranford and Justin Sherrill scored the two championship goals. Steven Ferree was the leading scorer for the year with 32 goals, with Will Stockton and Adrian Johnson next with nine goals each.
